Make Money from Going Green!

Dear Reader

If your marketing budget is tight or you're looking for a different way of promoting your business, have you thought about going green and telling people about it, to get some publicity? Can you go green just to raise awareness of your business, or should you start with green motives in mind and then see how you can use your actions to promote your business?

What do you think? Click here to share your views by answering my latest question on LinkedIn. And if you know anyone else who would like to answer the question, please forward this issue of Scribbles to them and encourage them to subscribe.

Best wishes,

Can You Make Money by Going Green?

At Appletree we're putting together a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) report, to show what we're doing to help our environment and look after our people. We've given particular attention to the environmental impact of the business - partly because we think it's the right thing to do and also because it's an area where we can reduce our costs. Here are some examples of what we've done recently:

Energy use. When we renovated our office in 2007, we installed a top rated boiler and loads of insulation. Now we turn everything off at night and when we're out at meetings; we use natural light as much as possible and only fill the kettle with the water we need.

Travel. Appletree is based in a rural village, so we're quite reliant on cars for going to meetings. We use the train for longer journeys and car share whenever possible; we also use conference calls. Because we recruit locally some of our staff can walk to work - great for when it snows!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We refill printer cartridges, reuse scrap paper and recycle IT equipment and furniture that we no longer need. We have a footer on our emails asking our readers to think about the environment before they print. And we send an email newsletter to save printing and posting thousands of copies!

The goal for 2010. Going forward, we're going to double glaze the office windows to reduce our energy usage and our carbon footprint and save lots of money and heat!

The Making Money Bit. As we compiled our report, we realised that we've been doing more and more 'green' stuff because it's important to us - not because we wanted to make money from it. So now we believe we can shout about what we're doing and even start asking our suppliers for their green credentials. As soon as our report is finished, we'll publish it on our website, along with all our goals for this year.

We'll do the report again next year, so you can make sure we've done what we promised. And if you have any suggestions for what else we can do to go green, just get in touch and let us know.

Do You Want to Make Money from Going Green?

If you'd like to make money from going green, start thinking about everything you do in your business to look after the environment. You probably do more than you think!

We'll be launching a new service in the next few months, that will help you identify all the areas of 'going and green' and CSR that you do. We'll compile a full report for you and produce a stunning, branded PDF - with photos and graphics - that you can put on your website and send to your clients, prospects and suppliers. We'll write a press release for you to send to your local and trade press, too.

If you'd like to know more about this new service, that will help you stand out from your competitors, send us an email or call us on 01635 578 500.

A Brand New Blog

It's full of positive marketing thoughts and ideas and so far we've written about networking in antlers, only working with positive people and soon we'll write about going green.
